Abishek Porel Arrested After High Court Order, Cricket Awaits Next Steps

The siren came before the spotlight. In Hooghly on Tuesday, Bengal Police took Abishek Porel into custody in connection with a rape case, sent him for a medical examination, then produced him before the Chinsurah Court, according to an official quoted by PTI in the Times of India report. The matter remains under investigation.

The arrest followed a Calcutta High Court order dated July 14. Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya directed police to arrest Porel and another accused, and to seize electronic devices to stop the spread of alleged private material linked to the complainant. Police told the court a pen drive had already been seized and sent for forensic examination.

According to the complaint filed at Mogra Police Station, a woman alleged that Porel established a physical relationship with her on the promise of marriage. The complaint also contains allegations of criminal intimidation and the recording of intimate moments. The complainant alleged that Porel threatened to make private photographs public.

She further alleged that she was assaulted and confined during an incident in Delhi on April 2, 2026, denied food, and later needed medical attention. These are allegations in a complaint. They have not been established in court, and Porel remains an accused. He has previously denied the allegations and said he would respond in detail after the police inquiry.

On the field, Porel rose as a wicketkeeper-batter for Bengal, debuted in first-class cricket in the 2021 to 2022 season, earned India A call-ups, and joined the Delhi Capitals setup in 2023. That climb put him in the frame for bigger nights and brighter lights.

Off it, the next beats are procedural, not theatrical. They concern custody, any charging decisions, and how a franchise and the BCCI navigate a live police case while due process runs. As of this report, there is no announcement from the team or the board.

With the arrest confirmed and devices under examination, the case moves to its next phase. Court proceedings and the investigation will decide what comes next. For now, the scorecard is shut, and the paperwork calls the play.
